CHARLES, MO \u2013 A grant program to bring the story of American history to life will help fund interpreters and tours at the Lewis &amp; Clark Boat House and Museum in St. Charles, Mo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are many of our 25,000 annual visitors who would like to see our replica boats up close; this grant will help us offer that experience,\u201d said Bob Foster, executive director.\u00a0 \u201cWe are grateful to Americana Corner and their Preserving America Grants for allowing us to expand our offerings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Celebrating America250 this year, the Lewis &amp; Clark Boat House and Museum is located on the banks of the Missouri River near where Lewis &amp; Clark stayed in May 1804 on the eve of their historic expedition.<\/p>\n<p>While in St. Charles, the captains added the final two U.S. Army privates to the corps.\u00a0 Pierre Cruzatte and Francois Labiche had Omaha mothers and French Canadian fathers, making them valuable as interpreters as well as skilled rivermen.\u00a0 During their stay, the party also socialized, went to church and made final preparations for the three-year journey to document the territory west of the Mississippi.<\/p>\n<p>Among the displays and presentations at the Museum, the Boat House is home of the Discovery Expedition of St. Charles, which re-enacted the full Lewis &amp; Clark expedition in 2004-2006, the bicentennial of the expedition.\u00a0 Three full-size, fully operational replicas of the boats used in the re-enactment are housed on the museum\u2019s lower level.\u00a0 The 55-foot keelboat, made of Western Cedar, is especially popular in parades and festivals.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the $7,500 grant from Americana Corner, the Lewis &amp; Clark Boat House and Museum is debuting a film series produced by the organization highlighting key moments in the expedition.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>About the Lewis &amp; Clark Boat House and Museum<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nThe Lewis &amp; Clark Boat House and Museum\/Discovery Expedition of St. Charles is an official destination on the Lewis &amp; Clark National Historic Trail and is adjacent to Missouri\u2019s Katy Trail State Park and Historic Main Street St. Charles.\u00a0 Privately owned and operated, the non-profit Museum is open every day and available for school groups, senior tours and private events.\u00a0 Learn more at<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lewisandclarkboathouse.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">www.lewisandclarkboathouse.org<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/a>or by calling 636-947-3199.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>About Americana Corner<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Americana Corner<\/strong><br \/>\nAmericana Corner was founded by Tom Hand in 2020 as an online resource to help others rediscover America\u2019s incredible founding and first century of expansion.
