Two beautiful quilts related to the Lewis & Clark Expedition are now on display at the Lewis & Clark Boat House and Museum. They are among many artifacts, including a hand-crafted replica fleet of boats and uniforms, that pay tribute to the heritage of the Expedition. Along with nearly 20 books on quilting themes, including a dozen by famed author of quilt-themed novels Ann Hazelwood, the museum is a perfect destination for the enthusiast. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ann Hazelwood is a former shop owner and native of St. Charles, Missouri. She’s always adored quilting and is a certified quilt appraiser and member of the American Quilter’s Society<\/a>. She’s the author of the wildly successful Colebridge Community series and considers writing one of her greatest passions. Titles include: Colebridge Community series – The Basement Quilt, The Potting Shed Quilt, The Funeral Parlor Quilt, The Jane Austen Quilt Club, The Ghostly Quilts on Main, Quilted Lilies, A Colebridge Quilted Christmas. She has also published the Wine Country Quilt Series, East Perry County series and is now writing the Door County Quilt series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Above, this quilt by Missourian Janise Manchester notes all the names of the expedition members and depicts some key locations in the expedition. Displayed in our classroom, the quilt educates in graceful, beautiful style. The quilt, 55 inches wide and 66 inches tall, was crafted by Janise and Jo & Dave Kassabaum of Jefferson City, MO. It was finished in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the many, many animals described by Lewis and Clark was the pronghorn antelope. Carol Armstong’s handiwork is on display in the staff offices. Stitched in 2004 in honor of the expedition, the pronghorn’s friendly expression is surprisingly lifelike in this 26 by 19-inch quilt.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
